Bare Necessities Supporters Enter Wilmslow Running Festival 2024
Over 30 runners will be raising money for the Toiletry Bank charity
Friends, volunteers, supporters and sponsors of Bare Necessities are gearing up to run either 10k or the half marathon, to boost fundraising.
With runners ranging in age from 17 to 65 years old and ranging in experience from ex marathons runners to those who are just getting off the couch the group are wide and varied with some hoping for a PB and others just hoping to get to the finish.
At the finish the runners are invited to a reception hosted by long term Bare Necessities sponsor Redrow, at Suburban Green.
Hoping to boost funds the Wilmslow based charity will use this money to buy toiletries to add to those donated. A selection of toiletry and hygiene products are packed into age and gender specific bags and delivered monthly to 32 charities in the Cheshire East and Manchester area. Charities include women’s, youth & schools, mother & baby, foodbanks and street homeless
When asked why she had volunteered to run the 10k for Bare Necessities 17 year old Holly commented, “I have helped the charity in the past packing bags so I know that it is run by volunteers with all money raised buying essential toiletries delivered to places it is most needed. Plus I wanted to up my running distance from 5 to 10k and being sponsored to do this by friends ensures I won’t back out.”
Runner and trustee of the charity Mike said “I ran the Wilmslow Half Marathon a couple of years ago but since then have had a couple of injuries that have stopped me from running. Now I’m fit again, the Wilmslow Running Festival has given me the push to get running again. The 10k distance was ideal and the fact that I can do it for a charity so close to my heart is the perfect reason.”
Abi a volunteer with Bare Necessities has decided to run the race with a few friends, “ At first I was worried about the distance but then friends volunteered to run with me making it more fun. Plus when I ask for sponsorship from my friends and family it’s an ideal opportunity for me to tell them about Bare Necessities and the people we have helped over the past 5 years. Reminding them to buy an extra toiletry in their weekly shop and put it in one of our donation bins”
Look out for some of the Bare Necessities runners in Fancy Toiletry Dress and give them a cheer!
